I’m chuffed, to use a word the Anglophilic Fernando Pessoa might have liked, to announce that my translation of Pessoa’s one-act “static drama” The Mariner (1915) will be out later this month from Sublunary Editions, in their exquisite Empyrean series. And it’s available for preorder now.

Pessoa’s only complete play, The Mariner casts both a strange spell on the reader and a fascinating light on the origin of Pessoa’s heteronyms. This slim bilingual volume includes an afterword by Antonio Tabucchi, a lifelong Pessoa fan, and a translator’s note by yours truly, in which I describe my absurd translation process.
